Dental work abroad: Georgia, Turkey or Estonia?

The same treatment costs up to four times more in the Nordics and the Gulf. But the cheapest quote isn't always the best value – we compared prices, the trip, and the risks for you, without the sales pitch.

Beyond the price

Three countries, three very different experiences

Estonia

  • +Short trip: flight or ferry under an hour from Helsinki
  • +Many clinics serve in English and Finnish
  • +EU country – familiar consumer protection
  • Prices have risen: saving now only 50–60%
  • Long waiting lists at the most popular clinics
  • ·Good choice for a single small procedure

Turkey

  • +Low prices and direct flights from most cities
  • +Wide choice of clinics
  • Conveyor-belt model: up to dozens of patients per day
  • "Turkey teeth": healthy teeth ground down for crowns
  • Aftercare and complaints often difficult due to distance and language
  • ·Quality varies wildly – clinic choice decides everything

Georgia

  • +Lowest price level – without the conveyor belt
  • +International quality implants (Straumann, Nobel, and others)
  • +SmileGeorgia: English-speaking contact person on site throughout your treatment
  • +Clinic, hotel and transport arranged in advance
  • No direct flights from most Nordic cities: 6–8 h with one connection
  • ·Best for larger treatment plans where the saving is in the thousands
We'll say this plainly

Who dental care abroad is NOT for

I've written a book on protecting yourself from scams, so I'm not going to dress anything up. Treatment abroad isn't the right answer for everyone:

How it works

Four steps to a new smile

Step 1

Send your details

Fill in the form and attach dental photos or X-rays if you have them. No commitment.

Step 2

You receive a treatment plan

The clinic's dentist prepares a written plan and exact price within 48 hours – explained in plain English.

Step 3

We organise the trip

We book clinic slots, hotel and transfers. You only book the flights – we help with those too.

Step 4

Treatment and follow-up

Your contact person is reachable throughout your stay in Tbilisi and after you return home.

Frequently asked

The questions everyone asks

Is the quality of dental care in Georgia actually good?

Our partner clinics use the same international implant systems and materials as Nordic and UK clinics. The price difference comes from labour and premises costs, not from materials. We select the clinics ourselves, visit them in person, and follow the outcome of every client's treatment.

What happens if something goes wrong after I return home?

Treatment comes with a written warranty agreed before you travel, with the terms explained in English. Your contact person doesn't disappear after treatment: aftercare and communication with the clinic are part of our service. We also recommend a check-up with your own dentist at home.

Will my home country's health insurance cover treatment abroad?

For treatment outside the EU/EEA (including Georgia and Turkey), reimbursement is generally not available. Treatment in Estonia may qualify for EU cross-border care reimbursement. In practice, the saving at Georgian price levels is many times the reimbursement – but we tell you this openly so you can do the maths yourself.

How long is the trip and how long does treatment take?

From most Nordic and Gulf cities, Tbilisi is one connection away, typically 6–8 hours total travel. A single crown or denture treatment usually takes 5–7 days; implant treatment requires two shorter trips 3–6 months apart. Between treatments you have plenty of time to explore Tbilisi – the city is affordable, safe, and welcoming.

Who is behind SmileGeorgia?

Seppo H. Metsälä – a Finnish entrepreneur with over 50 years of experience in international trade across 65 countries, now based in Tbilisi. I know the local clinics personally and I'm on site while you're being treated. The company is registered in Georgia (Seppo Henrik Metsala Private Enterprise).
